Nick Leeson’s Colon
Cancer Story
The
Daily Mail Newspaper ran the story of the rogue trader and his experience with
cancer on Tuesday, July 13, 1999. In it they catalogue the events leading up to
the discovery of his tumor. The tumor had been growing inside him for six months
and he had been feeling unwell almost six months to the day that his cancer was
diagnosed.
Acute
problems such as vomiting and shortness of breath where the tumor was pushing on
his lungs caused him to collapse in the squalid maximum-security jail in Singapore. With his
legs and arms still shackled, doctors rushed Leeson into surgery for an
emergency operation. “When the tumor was removed it was the size of a large
orange. Doctors also removed a revolting writhing mass of worms and an
amoebae.” Quote.
