Sandra (Sandy) is my youngest child and she just had her 40th birthday. Sandy has one son, Ben, who is 20 years old. Sandy has been addicted to painkillers and anti-anxiety pills since the age of 12 when she was prescribed Darvon for menstrual cramps and Valium for nightmares. Over the years the drugs she has been prescribed have changed to the painkillers Demoral and/or Vicodin and the anti-anxiety pills Clonipen and/or Xannex.

For Sandy, adult life has been 28 long years of drug-induced hell. Whenever she tried to stop taking the drugs her pain was many times worse and her nightmares were still with her.

Living with her was never easy. Her moods were never predictable, unless you consider unpredictable predictable. Through it all she always said she needed and wanted help. She was open to (and tried) everything that was suggested to her — counseling, psychiatric treatments, taking different combinations of nutritional supplements, staying in a recovery home for several months (while Ben stayed with his aunt and uncle), and having two endometriosis operations and a complete hysterectomy.

Sandy has always shown her loved ones glimpses of a warm and caring personality. We all prayed that somehow, someday she would find a way out of her personal hell. Her brother and his wife, Bill and Nancy, eventually went into the "tough love" mode — meaning no contact until a year after the drug or alcohol victim (my word) is clean and sober — and strongly advised Dale and I to do the same. (I did this for a couple of months, but felt I was the one being punished so I called it off.)

In March of last year Dale and I attended sessions with Sandy that were designed as a short cut to mental health — a kind of self-hypnosis. It helped me tremendously as I still had some issues concerning my mother, but it didn’t seem to help Sandy.

Several months later we all began taking the Water Oz minerals. They helped Sandy to go through a detoxification regime. Detoxification usually lasts from 3 to 5 days and causes a person to feel sick to their stomach and ache in every joint in their body. Sandy noticed that by taking the Water Oz minerals everyday her symptoms were much less severe than in the past when she had gone through detox and within 3 days she wasn’t feeling as overwhelmingly obsessed with the pills as she normally felt.

When she realized that the minerals were making a positive difference in her health she decided she wanted to share them with her friend and neighbor, Jenny (who has Fibromyalga and is a stay-at-home-mom with a 24-year-old retarded son). At this time, Sandy was on a seesaw of feeling free of her addition for several days and then having a bad day of experiencing her familiar obsession with scheming about how she was going to get her next Vicodin and Xannex prescriptions. She knew this was due to her body going through deeper tissue detoxification of the drugs, but it was taking all of her strength to resist.

It was at this point that she found the rest of the answer to her addiction — DNR’s Liquid Needles.

First, she used DNR’s COF-130 extra strength soak, which gave her instant relief when she was having a bad day. She was astonished at the amount of stuff that came out in the tub water. For the first week or so of using the soaks, after soaking her head for 10 minutes, her hair was practically stiff with scum that wouldn’t wash out — she had to use lemon juice to remove it. And the tub would have a black ring around it after she let the water out.

The COF-130 soaks were a Godsend and by soaking daily and taking the Water Oz minerals every morning Sandy became stronger and stronger both physically and mentally. She began reading everything she could about the DNR products and decided to try the drops that you put into water and drink that "balance" your emotions as well as your physical body. She used the Brown, Yellow and Green Label bottles and the Extress Extra Strength and the EVB Extra Strength. When they arrived she included them into the regimen she had herself and Jenny on. For two months they each drank 15 drops from each little bottle (mixed with 3 ounces of water) and drank 2 tablespoons of EVB (mixed in a quart of water) per day as well as having COF soaks daily and drinking the Water Oz mineral protocol for addictions. Sometime during the two months Sandy realized that for several weeks she had not had a nightmare or found her mind preoccupied with getting drugs. From that point on she has been experiencing the strongest feeling of hope that she can remember in her life.

But, as usual, the road wasn’t smooth . . .

At the end of the two months a tooth that her dentist had been trying to save began to act up again. She decided to have it pulled and after it was out the dental surgeon handed her two prescriptions: one for an antibiotic and another for Vicodin. Yep, you’re right, she couldn’t resist the temptation and she had the Vicodin prescription filled and took all 24 tablets during the next 24 hours. However, this time she didn’t like the feelings they gave her. For the first time in her adult life she liked the way she felt without the drugs better than the way she felt on the drugs!

This, to me, is as great a miracle as giving birth. I have my daughter back!

Dale and I recently had a two-week visit from Sandy and Gary (Gary is Sandy’s fiancée). They arrived a few days before Sandy’s birthday, which was March 24th. She has been totally off drugs since March 5, 2001. It’s a miracle to everyone who knows her. She says she can’t remember being in such a good mood for so many days in a row.

On the last Sunday they were here and while Dale was out of town attending a seminar, Sandy, Gary, Donovan (Dale’s 16 year-old son) and I drove to Monterey, Calif. We had a wonderful day. We ate seafood on the pier and bought trinkets in the little shops. We took the 17 mile scenic drive in Pebble Beach and saw the famous golf course. Gary took pictures of us and also of the birds sitting on the rocks. We talked and laughed all the way there and back. It’s wonderful to have Sandy back, although she says she was never "back" before as an adult!!

PS Jenny has seen improvement in her health also, however she recently discovered that her apartment has a severe mold problem, which may be contributing to her poor health. She is working on correcting the problem and will relocate if it isn’t corrected soon.
